New of its kind and strategic in peace building and consolidation, the mayor of Nwa council lunches new project – Sport for peace. This took place recently in Sabongari a locality in the Nwa sub-division. Nwa is one of those communities that have been hit hard by the ongoing arm conflict in the Northwest and southwest regions o Cameroon. As a result of the war thousands have left the village and are living as IDPs in neighboring communities, others as refugees in neighboring Nigeria in Gembu.
The government forces mixed with the Mbororos have committed gross human atrocities in these forty three villages that make up Nwa. Hundreds of homes raze by fire with huge property loose have been seen; worsen by the end of year family gathering that sent many to the bushes and early grave.
It is in the light that the lord mayor Mr. Menyong Lawrence and his team of councilors. took over the task of implementing sport for peace project intending to attract relevant peace through friendship building in Nwa villages, Women are also part of the project. The Sabongari police commissioner, the frontier police commissioner are all part of the Sport for Peace project. So for many sporting events have been organized with women taking the front lead. Other cross border teams from Gembu also participated in both tournaments. It is expected that this Sport for Peace project will contribute in building positive relationships that are friendly and trust wealthy amongst the communities and forces of law and order.
