Biya and the 2020 Election fall out in Ambazonia
Uncertainties are looming, weeks and days drawing closer the election day. The declared twine elections may stage a new beginning for harder confrontation between Amba arm groups and the army of Cameroon. Despite calls from
political leaders and other renounce political scientists on Biya to suspend elections until when the grounds in the Northwest and South West have been smoothen then can Cameroonians go to the poles to vote on save grounds. This without which the elections will be not be credible but be an insult to democracy and democratic institutions and principles.
An election is considered credible when the grounds are safe for citizens to go out and vote for their representatives. This is not the case with our own type of democracy and elections. The crisis in the two regions are still to be resolve, with many lock downs in these regions how then can we talk of voting !This question and many more have been tabled directly to the president of the republic yet he has remain adamant to redress the situation but rather wish to face consequences from the Amba fighters.
The risk of violence before and after the vote is highest in Anglophone regions, but exists in other areas. The opposition and several social movements dispute the legitimacy of the election, and Anglophone separatists intend to disrupt the vote. Tensions are rising as the government’s stance hardens.
The Ambazonia Military Forces, AMF has declared total lockdown days in Cameroon's North West and South West regions to frustrate the holding of the 2020 Municipal and Legislative elections in the regions.
According to a communique signed by the Ambazonia Military Forces High Command Wednesday January 1, 2020, movements in the towns and villages of the English speaking regions have been restricted from the 7th to the 12 of February 2020 that is two days before the holding of the elections.
“On these days, anyone seen anywhere outside in our towns and villages will be considered an enemy and treated as such.” The communique reads. “The information is released at this point to enable the civilian population take appropriate measures to stay safe.”
In the communique, they reiterate that the 2020 Municipal and Legislative elections will not hold in the two English speaking regions.
“The AMF Executive High Command seize this opportunity to reiterate that there will be no elections in Ambazonia organized by the colonizer in Yaounde. Anyone suspected to be involved in those outlawed elections in any form or shape shall be dealt with according to the laws of the land.”
